Another Aran Jumper

Posted on | February 16, 2010 | No Comments

Traditional Aran JumperHere is another aran jumper knitted from a pattern that I got from my mum that is from the 60s, I think.

The last time I knitted this jumper, it sold at the very next craft fair that I went to.  I am not sure whether it was the colour or the pattern, but I have done it in the same colour this time.

There is so much knitting that I want to get done for the craft fairs this year.  I never seem to have enough of something!

Last year it was cardigans, everyone wanted a cardigan.  So this year, I will be trying to knit more cardigans along with as many jumpers and jackets/coats as I can manage.

Not to mention all the scarfs, both aran and lace that I want to get done.

There just isn’t enough hours in the day or energy in the body. (sigh)

I have managed to get a few lace triangles knitted, but just haven’t had time to take photos and blog about them.

I am currently knitting a Hydrangea lace scarf and a Kid Silk Haze scarf.  One is good for tv knitting and the other is for when there is nothing to watch on tv. :-)

Hopefully, one of these will be finished in the next couple of days and I will be able to blog about it.

Peacock Tail and Leaf Scarf

Posted on | February 9, 2010 | 1 Comment

Peacock Tail and Leaf ScarfI bought the “Knitted Lace of Estonia” book by Nancy Bush last year and I thought all the patterns seemed to be complicated so I put it to the side and forgot about it for a while.

One day, I had an urge to knit some lace, so I pulled out my two lace books and my lace patterns and I eventually decided on knitting this Peacock Tail and Leaf Scarf from the “Kintted Lace of Estonia” book.

It was nowhere as complicated as I thought it was and I managed to finish it in a few days.

Although you can’t see it in the photo, it has quite a lot of  “nuups” which I had only ever attempted once before in a Swallowtail Lace Shawl, but they do become easier with practice.

The yarn I used was from Posh Yarn and was called “Cecilia” and the colour was “Whimsy”.

The yarn is 50% Silk, 50% Cashmere.  It is hand dyed in Wales.

I purchased a 100g hank which was 1300 yds and it cost me £16.00 and I still have enough yarn for at least another two lace items.

I would love to buy more yarn from Posh Yarn, but I never seem to have the money when they have a colour that I really want. :-(

They have yarn on sale every Sunday at 7pm and it is usually sold out in a few minutes, so if you fancy some Posh Yarn, you have to be quick!

Waving Lace Socks – FO

Waving Lace SocksI managed to finish the Waving Lace Socks last night before I went to bed, so I am wearing them today.

They are lovely and warm and they look good too!

The pattern is from “Favorite Socks” from Interweave.

Waving Lace Socks

These socks are for me!!

I knitted a few pairs of socks for the craft fairs last year, but no one was interested in buying them.  I got plenty of ooos and aaaahs about them, but no one wanted to buy them.

So all the socks that I had knitted have been given to my two girls and I got a couple of pairs too.  But now that I have started wearing knitted socks, I prefer them to bought ones so I thought I would knit myself some more.

I actually read the pattern wrong and missed out a purl stitch between the waves on the first sock, so the pattern is a bit lop sided, but because they are for me I decided not to rip them out and start again.  No one will see my feet anyway as I always wear big boots. :-)

The pattern is from the “Favourite Socks” book by Interweave.  I am using 4 ply sock yarn and 2.25mm dpns.

The biggest problem I have when knitting socks, is that I keep sticking the needle into my finger which can become quite painful after a while, so I currently have a plaster on my finger to try and prevent some pain. :-)

I hope to have the second sock finished today so that I can start knitting a pair of Toe Up socks.

Happy New Year!

Posted on | January 11, 2010 | No Comments

I know, I am a bit late in wishing you all a Happy New Year, but the weather has been so cold here that I didn’t feel like moving away from the fire long enough to blog!

The temperature got as low as -14c here in our part of the NE of Scotland.  Christmas and New Year were both very quiet for us.  Both of my parents passed away in December/January, so it is not my favourite time of year, so I mainly kept warm and did my knitting :-)

I have knitted many things since my last post, but haven’t taken photos of them all yet, some are needing blocked etc, but I will get around to doing it eventually.

One of the items that I have completed is this:-

It is from the Flower Basket Lace Shawl pattern.  I did the smallest size in 100% Merino Laceweight 2 ply yarn.  I can’t for the life of me remember where I bought the yarn.  I do know that I bought it online.

The colour is Blackcurrant and 100g = 1500m

The pattern was fairly simple and easy to follow. It is by Evelyn Clark and if you are a member of Ravelry, you can find all the details Here You must be logged in to view.

This is the Hydrangea Lace Scarf by Eugen K. Beugler and you can find all the pattern details on Ravelry.

I knitted it in plain old 4ply yarn and I am very please with how it turned out.

I know I will be knitting more of these for various reasons, for various people.

It was fairly quick to knit up so will be great for gifts etc.

Because of the weather, I haven’t ventured outside to take photos, so these are not the best.

I am hoping to get a lot of knitting done this year, both for gifts, myself and stock for the craft fairs in the second half of the year.

Finished all orders and no more craft fairs!

Posted on | December 10, 2009 | No Comments

I have managed to finish all of the orders that I had and I have no more craft fairs this year!

My first craft fair next year won’t be until August/September time!

This all means that I can be knitting what I want rather than having to knit something.

I have already started on stock for next year and I have knitted another pair of socks for my other half, although he turned around and asked when he would get the next pair!

I didn’t manage to take photos of the last two orders that I finished, because they needed to be delivered in time for christmas.

Polo neck jumper

Posted on | November 20, 2009 | No Comments

brown_polo_neckI finished this jumper last week but the weather has been either raining or it have been very dull and I finally had to take a photo inside because the jumper will be delivered to the customer this weekend at the Craft Fair in Aberdeen.

You can’t really see the pattern properly, but this was the best I could do.

The customer also ordered a beret and a scarf in the same Chocolate Brown Aran yarn.

I also finished a childs aran cardigan and beret in cream, and a childs aran jumper, but I didn’t manage to get photos of them.

I will be in Aberdeen on both Saturday and Sunday and I have a couple of customers coming to pick up their orders.
