Adventures of a hand knitter

  • A Very Busy Month

I have finally got a Saturday without a Craft Fair.

I have already been to 3 this month.  Although it is great to have so many opportunities to sell my hand-knitting, it makes it very difficult to keep enough stock products for the next Craft Fair.  Over the course of the 3 Craft Fairs this month, I have sold 4 jumpers/cardigans.  Now these can take me anywhere from 4 - 7 days to make, depending on the pattern, and this means that I do not have time to make more stock items.

I also have customers ordering garments in different sizes/colours, this also means that I fall behind on stock.

Craft Fair One item that I can make dozens of per week is Scarfs.  There is a pattern called the “1 hour scarf” and it litterally takes 1 hour to do.

It is knitted using two types of knittig yarn, Cosmic and Shimmer, and size 15mm needles.  You cast on 9 stitches and just knit every row until you run out of wool.

There is another yarn that makes lovely scarfs called Boa.  For this scarf, you cast on 20 stitches using 6.5mm needles and knit until the scarf measures approx. 54 inches.  You can then add a fringe if you want, but I like to leave it without the fringe sometimes.

Aran scarfs take a lot longer to knit, but I can still get 2-3 of these done in a week.  They are knitted on smaller needles and have more stitches, and they normally have a pattern of some sort on them.

Fortunatly, I have two weeks before my next Craft Fair and I will hopefully be able to get some stock knitted up.

As and when I finish a garment over the next 2 weeks, I will take a photo and put it on this blog.  I will try to get as many garments done as I can.  Hopefully, I will get enough done to keep my stall stocked. :)
