Adventures of a hand knitter

I hate sewing!

Posted on | February 24, 2008

When I was younger I used to get my mother to sew up all of my knitted garments, then when I left home and got married, my mother in law used to sew everything for me.

One divorce later and I now have to sew up all of my garments myself.

I have actually come to enjoy sewing a garment up, and seeing the final result knowing that I did every single stitch myself.

However, there is still one thing that I hate to sew and that is a picot edge.

Matinee Jacket with Picot edge I recently got an order for 3 matinee jackets and I couldn’t find a pattern that I liked. All of the ones in the shops looked too modern and I wanted to do more of a traditional pattern.

I finally found the pattern for this jacket and the only draw back was the fact that it has picot edging.

This is a picture of the first jacket. I have sewn the sleeve and neck picot, but I still have the bottom edge to do and then I have to do it all again, twice.

I thought I was being cleaver by knitting all three jackets and leaving the sewing until last, but now have it all to do.

I just hope I don’t mess it up or I will have to start all over again.
