Try a different yarn, your never know!

A couple of years ago, I started making Teddy Bears with Double Knitting yarn. I used a pattern that I found in a Woman’s magazine.Plain DK Teddy

Here is a photo of the resulting Teddy Bear with his clothes.

I made and sold quite a few of these Teddys over a couple of years and when I started using yarns like Funky Fur and the like, I thought the Teddy would look good if it was knitted in the fur like yarn.

Here you can see the same pattern knitted in Funky Fur yarn.

Brown Funky Fur Teddy
The different yarn and colours make the same pattern look completely different.

The only problem I found was that the Funky Fur was extremely diffucult to use to sew the Teddy Bear together.

I think it was due to the make up of the yarn which is 100% Poyester.

I still haven’t gotten around to taking these bears apart and sewing them back together with a different yarn, so they are not of a quality to be sold, but I have them sitting on a shelf in my craft room and they keep me company.

So don’t be afraid to try a different yarn for your favourite pattern, with the teddys above, I didn’t bother to do tension squares or anything else, but if you check your tension and change your needles accordingly, you could be knitting your favourite pattern in some of the great new yarns that are available today.
