Adventures of a hand knitter

Fair Isle Jumper

Posted on | October 13, 2009 | No Comments

fairisle_jumperI received the yarn and pattern for this order a week ago and was asked if I could have it finished and back to the customer before she left for Canada today.

I said I would try, but then I ran out of yarn at the end of last week and had a craft fair on Sunday so I just didn’t manage to get it finished on time.  But I did finish it today!

The pattern details are:-

Spun Out #4 – 1982

Child’s Fair Isle Yoke Sweater
(Originially published in 1974 as Elizabeth’s Wool Gathering #11)

By Elizabeth Zimmermann and Meg Swanson

It is the customers pattern and she supplied the yarn which was Jamieson & Smith 2ply Jumper Yarn, 100% Pure New Wool, from Shetland.

The jumper was knitted on circular needles from the bottom up.  There is a hem at the bottom.  This was the first time I had seen an Elizabeth Zimmermann pattern and it was a bit different from the patterns that I normally use, but I got there in the end, I think!

The yarn knitted up a bit uneven, but it looks ok now that it is all finished.

I will be sending it off in the post in the morning, so I hope that the customer likes it!
