Shoulder Shawl

Posted on | July 18, 2008

Shoulder Shawl in cherry leaf patternI have started my first adult shawl!

I am knitting it in a 4 ply 100% Alpaca yarn in Denim, that I picked up at a charity shop for 50p.

I don’t know how much yarn there is on the cone, but I figured, as it is my first attempt, I might as well use the yarn that cost me 50p rather than buy yarn for £20 or more and make a mess of it.

If nothing else, it will let me practice.

I have never done a knitted on border before, so hopefully I will get the hang of it with this shawl and then be able to do one with other yarn.

The pattern is from “Victorian Lace Today” by Jane Sowerby

Victorian Lace Today

This book is full of lovely lace shawls and scarfs. There is so many of them that I want to knit! :)

This is one of the easier shawls in the book, it is classed as Intermediate Lace, and it can be knitted in different weights of yarn. You just need to change the needle size.

Aran Coat Progress Report

The aran coat that I was knitting is finished except for the sewing up. I finally managed to get buttons the right shade of green after going to all of the lys. In the end I got them from John Lewis in Aberdeen.

I will try not to put off sewing it up for too long and get a photo up as soon as possible.

Off to a good start with the shawl and the alpaca yarn looks like a great bargain. I have the Victorian Lace Today book on my bookshelves. I agree it’s a wonderful book and I keep meaning to knit something out of it myself but haven’t done so yet. Thanks for your comment on my blog! :-)
